About Prof S. Rajasekaran

Prof S. Rajasekaran is the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics, Trauma & Spine Surgery at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, India. Ganga Hospital is currently the largest orthopaedic speciality hospital in South Asia with 650 beds and 35 operating theatres. He is an Adjunct Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.

He is an internationally renowned spine surgeon, researcher, academician and leader. He is currently the President of the Asia Pacific Spine Society. He has held numerous prominent leadership roles including past Chair, AO Spine International Board, President of SICOT, President of the Indian Orthopaedic Association, President of the Association of Spine Surgeons of India, President of International Society for the Study of Lumbar Spine, Canada and President of the World Orthopaedic Concern, UK.

He has awarded the prestigious Hunterian Professorship for the year 2011-12, by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He has been invited as a ‘Distinguished Visitor’ to a number of top Universities including Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA.

He academic achievements are extraordinary, having received numerous prestigious research awards. He is the recipient of ISSLS Award for four years, NASS Outstanding paper award for four consecutive years and the EuroSpine Open Paper Award. Dr Rajasekaran has 446 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has also contributed 72 chapters in international books and is the Chief Editor of a Video Atlas of Spine Surgery and the ASSI Textbook on Spinal Infections & Trauma.
